STORAGE
The unfilled SUP board can be stored either full or empty. Many people keep the board filled up all summer long, so it is ready for use immediately. In this case, it is advisable to check the pressure every couple of weeks, especially before longer trips. To keep your board in good condition for years, store it in the shade, even if it is made of UV-protected PVC. Prolonged exposure to the sun will fade the colours. If you store your board packed in a backpack, make sure it is completely dry, especially the neoprene carrying handle, to prevent it from moulding. According to manufacturers, storing the board in sub-zero temperatures is allowed. Winter storage inflated but at low pressure (max 10psi) is recommended. However, freezing temperatures wear down materials, so a board stored in warm conditions will last longer. The same storage guidelines apply to SUP boards with canopies as for inflatable boards. However, direct sunlight and heat can damage a hard-bodied board, so keep them in the shade or in a cool place.
MAINTENANCE
SUP boards are easy to maintain. Clean the board with a mild detergent solution and a brush if necessary. If you flip in seawater, rinse the board and equipment with fresh water. Check the inflatable board valve regularly for looseness and debris.
REPAIR OF THE INFLATABLE SUP BOARD
Inflatable SUP boards are durable but can be damaged by careless handling. To find the hole, fill the board and listen for hissing or use soapy water and look for bubbles. For valve leaks, simply tightening may be enough. Use a repair kit to patch holes: apply glue to both the board and the patch, centre the patch over the hole and press firmly. Allow 24 hours to dry.
It is recommended to take the board to a professional to repair major damage.
SUP BOARD VALVE REPLACEMENT
If the valve is broken, it can be replaced. Use the valve tool supplied with the board to open the valve and check that there is no debris in the valve. Install the new valve, making sure that no wire is caught between the valve threads. Tighten the valve firmly in place.
REPAIR OF HARD-BODIED SUP BOARDS
If a deep dent occurs in a hardboard, dry and clean the damaged area. Use a water-resistant two-component sealant for repair. Apply epoxy to the damaged area and allow to cure. For more extensive damage, have a professional, such as a boat mechanic, repair the damage.
